The Best Hiking Granola Snack Ever   by Marti Eales

Ingredients:

4 cups Old Fashioned Oatmeal

1 cup raisins

1 cup salted sunflower seeds, shelled

1 cup dried cranberries

1 cup almonds

1 cup cashews

1/2 cup honey

Canola Oil

Optional ingredients: I try to keep this as healthy as possible but you can add M&M's, coconut, dried pineapple, dried bananas, pumpkin seeds, dried cherries, chocolate chips, and other dried nuts and fruits. Key is to try to get the most energy out of this snack, that will stay with you for a while.

Method:

Take a large cookie sheet and oil using a pastry brush or paper towel. Pour the Oatmeal out on the sheet and spread evenly. Drizzle with honey. Bake at 250 degrees, turning and mixing around about every five minutes until you use all of the honey and the Oatmeal is coated lightly and lightly browned. Remove from oven and let cool, stirring from time to time until it is all room temperature. Pour other ingredients into a paper bag. Fold bag down and shake several times to mix evenly. Add the Oatmeal mixture and repeat the shaking process. Scoop into Ziploc bags to store. Can also be stored in the freezer, just make sure you remove as much air as possible. Scoop out into smaller ziplocs to carry in your backpack.
